Position Overview
Axiom Custom Products is seeking an experienced Metal Fabrication Department Manager to lead and actively contribute to our metal fabrication operations. This is a hands-on leadership role for a skilled fabricator who thrives in a fast-paced, highly custom manufacturing environment and enjoys guiding a team to deliver high-quality work on time.

As the Metal Fabrication Department Manager, you will oversee Axiom’s metal shop, staff, and fabrication capabilities while remaining directly involved in day-to-day production. You will be responsible for planning and managing production schedules, assigning work, developing technical instructions, and establishing assembly-specific operating procedures. Working closely with shop management, operations, purchasing, CNC, engineering, and neighboring departments, you will ensure metal parts, sub-assemblies, and assemblies are produced accurately, organized efficiently, and delivered to the next work center without delay.

Role Responsibilities
This role requires strong coordination and planning skills. You will intake and schedule metalwork, attend production kick-offs, and ensure raw materials, welding supplies, consumables, and gases are available to meet production needs. You will monitor your team's performance, equipment usage, drawings and paperwork to ensure procedures are followed, while inspecting cuts, fit-ups, welds, and final details to confirm all work meets project specifications and quality expectations. Maintaining shop efficiency is critical, and you will take ownership of equipment, tools, and metal shop organization to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement.

Leadership and safety are central to this position. You will train and mentor metal fabricators, set goals, provide direction, and foster a positive, productive work environment. You will enforce company safety policies, ensure proper PPE usage, and maintain a clean and safe shop through daily cleanup and preventative maintenance practices. You will manage labor hours carefully, adjust schedules to prevent unnecessary overtime, identify potential overtime early, and communicate proactively with leadership when changes or approvals are needed.

Essential Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate brings a proven history of leading and training a small team along with strong technical expertise in metal fabrication, including cutting, fitting, and MIG and TIG welding. You should have a comprehensive understanding of fabrication and adjacent manufacturing processes, the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, and a problem-solving mindset suited to high-pressure deadlines. Organization, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate across departments are essential. Experience in a design-led or custom manufacturing industry is strongly preferred. Candidates must be able to lift 50 pounds or more and perform effectively in a physically demanding shop environment.

Axiom Custom Products operates as a collaborative, adaptable team focused on delivering exceptional custom solutions. Our 75,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is non-climate-controlled and includes exposure to machinery, tools, noise within OSHA limits, and standard shop hazards, all managed through strict safety protocols. Some roles may involve on-site visits to construction, event, or retail environments, where safety remains a top priority.

Key Performance Indicators
Success in this role is measured by delivering accurate metalwork on time and within labor-hour constraints, maintaining organized workflow and documentation, supporting employee satisfaction and retention, and consistently complying with Axiom’s systems, processes, and quality standards. If you are a hands-on leader with strong fabrication skills and a passion for building efficient teams and high-quality work, we encourage you to apply.

Compensation
Pay range: $36/hour to $43/hour, DOE.
