Drafter

At Axiom Custom Products, we don’t just build; we bring ideas to life. As a leader in fabrication serving the creative, events, retail, and construction industries, Axiom blends advanced digital manufacturing with decades of hands-on expertise to deliver results that stand apart. From early concept to final installation, our in-house capabilities allow us to execute ambitious visions with precision, creativity, and craftsmanship.

We’re adding a Drafter to our Engineering team, and we’re specifically looking for someone with build experience. Cabinet builders, fabricators, and shop hands who understand how a drawing turns into a real, physical object are the ideal candidates. You should have some real Solidworks background, which could be coursework, self-taught, or just the beginnings of your Solidworks career with the goal to grow. We’ve learned over the years that having Engineers who have real-world build experience is crucial in delivering at the speed and quality that our clients demand. Drafters work under the direction of our Design Engineers, turning their concepts and assemblies into clean, accurate, production-ready drawings.

Responsibilities
Design Engineers take conceptual designs and concepts and turn them into buildable models and overview drawings. From there, those drawings still need to be detailed, documented, and broken out into production drawing sets, which is where the Drafter comes in.

The Drafter creates accurate SolidWorks models and drawings based on Axiom standards, working directly with the direction provided by Design Engineers. This includes:
  • Building detailed fabrication drawings from 3D models
  • Creating assembly drawings, duplicate/derivative assemblies, and bills of materials
  • Applying Axiom's drawing and naming standards consistently across projects
  • Making revisions as projects evolve, keeping drawings and models accurate and current
  • Supporting projects from quoting through production, coordinating with Engineering, project management, and the shop floor
  • Saving out DXF files for production
  • Creating models and drawings of templates/jigs for production
  • Creating install directives
  • Simple prototype modeling and testing
  • Executing work in a timely and efficient manner and communicating clearly with the team

Experience and Requirements
  • Hands-on build experience in cabinets, fabrication, woodworking, welding, CNC or a comparable shop environment
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Some SolidWorks background with a genuine interest in developing that skill further. Deep professional experience is not required
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with basic shop math (dimension and tolerances)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Clear written and visual communication skills
  • Comfortable working across departments and communication with Engineering, Project Management and shop staff
  • Solid general computer skills (Google Docs, Slack or similar)

The Reward
We pay excellent wages, and our team enjoys great benefits: medical, dental, and vision, with options for dependents. We offer 401(k) and Roth investment options. After year one, you accrue 20 days of PTO, yep, you read that right. Combined with 6 paid holidays, our benefits are some of the best in the industry.

Note: the office is dog friendly.

This role pays $70k - 80k, depending on experience.

If you’re looking for room to grow, and a long-term career with a company that values quality, craftsmanship, and collaboration, you’ve found the place.
